Before we get into this, it’s important to understand that you’ve been given a wonderful opportunity to roll a blunt. Weed brings happiness to human beings, and even today, it is still controversial, and sometimes very dangerous to enjoy this wonderful plant. So each time you finish rolling up some sticky bomb ass weed, remember to take a quick moment of silence before you light up for all of the sober ladies and gentlemen out there who miss out on such a cherished occurence in life.
Backwoods
Choose your blunt wrap. Depending on the amount of weed you have, you can choose a ‘Rillo, (Cigarillo) or a wood. (Backwood) There are certainly other things to roll, such as paper, but that’s not a blunt, it’s a joint.
Amounts of marijuana are most commonly measured by weight. Backwoods are good for about 3 to 3.5 grams of weed, 3.5 being known as an eighth of weed, which is 1/8th of an ounce. An eighth goes for $35, or sometimes a cool $40. Woods are hard as fuck to roll, especially for beginners, but if rolled well, the effort is rewarding because it burns slow, while hitting hard and fast.
Backwoods often give a very “to the head” type of drag. The strong nicotine from the tobacco leaf combines with the thc from the weed, and rushes in to give your lung’s capillaries a big hug, sending a euphoric buzz through your bloodstream, and into your brain. Since you put a whole eighth in that mf, you’re gonna get pretty high smoking all that weed. If you’re a novice, a bit of caution is advised.
Cigarrillo
The arguably more popular way to smoke is with a rillo. A rillo is the easiest to roll. It’s more firm than a joint or a backwood, and sticks much easier than a backwood when you lick it. It doesn’t take much weed to make a fat blunt, and it burns slow. Not to mention rillos usually have tasty flavors added to them.
There’s a whole bunch of different rillos you can buy at a gas station, or anywhere else tobacco products are sold. You can get the infamous swishers, or the chill white owls, or the dutch masters, or gacia vegas, etcetera. There’s plenty of berry, peach, and grape flavors, as well as tropical fusions, and so on to choose from. This is true across various brands.
Believe it or not, a country white boy by the name of Colton, was the first person to teach me how to roll. He showed me the basics in his pickup truck right down the street from the high school we attended. Life’s a trip. Anyways, It’s my personal opinion that you should use 1 to 1.2 grams for a single standard sized rillo.
Rolling Up
The process of rolling a wood or a rillo is quite similar. When you buy and open a pack, the first step is to open up the blunt wrap so you can dump the guts (tobacco) out of it. You could use a knife, or what’s known as a blunt splitter to achieve this, but the OG way to do it is with your fingers. Pick an opening of the wrap and force your thumb nails into the outside of the blunt causing a split. Follow the split down in a straight a line as you can until you reach the end and the rillo opens up like a hotdog bun.
Dump the guts out. Take your grinded weed, and spread it evenly throughout the blunt wrap. Try to get it as full as you can, while leaving some room to lick and seal the ends of the rillo back together. Once it’s lined almost full, perch the rillo between your index, middle fingers, and thumbs. Roll it carefully back and forth to secure the shape, tuck the rillo end under the other rillo end, and lick the underside of the rillo end that is going to lay on top of the tucked one. You can lick the whole side, and perform the tuck and lay all at once, or you can tuck-lick-lay, tuck-lick-lay, all the way to the end.
If a part doesn’t stick well, and comes off, you carefully lift it up slightly, re-lick, and lay it down again. If you need to make the blunt tighter or looser, you can use your bottom teeth to carefully scoop up the edge of the blunt end, adjust it’s position, re-lick and lay it back down.
When practicing it is important to get the tightness correct the first time to avoid doing this, because if you are smoking with friends, most people dislike excessive saliva on the blunt. Tightness is important because if a blunt is too tight, it will be hard to drag and to actually smoke it. If it is too loose, the pull will be weak because a lot of air will be coming through, and it is more likely that weed will fall into your mouth while hitting the blunt. This is called getting “Scooby snacks”.
If there is hole in the blunt, your two options are to cover the hole while smoking, or to rescue the blunt. To rescue a blunt, you need to have something smokable to wrap over the blunt and cover the hole, preferably joint paper.
That’s it! Sounds very complicated, but I assure you it is fairly easy to roll up. These little tricks are insights from personal experience that will be helpful to you, and you may even come to realize them by yourself as you become a better roller. Remember to play music throughout your rolling and smoke sessions as it is an aid to concentration and keeps a good vibe.
